About Lustre

Lustre is a rural farming and ranching community located on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in northeastern Montana. It can be found about 35 miles north of Wolf Point, 55 miles northeast of Glasgow, and 53 miles southwest of Scobey. While Lustre doesn't have a general store, a gas station, or even paved roads, it makes up for it by having a thriving community that can be just as busy as any big city neighborhood.

At the center of the community is the public K-8 grade school as well as the Lustre Christian High School. These offer most of the non-agricultural employment in the community, along with ample opportunities in neighboring towns. The High School hosts students from all over the U.S. and world, giving Lustre its unique mix of cultures. Additionally, the Lustre MB and the EMB Churches bring the community together to worship.

When locals are not working, they are busy with school and church activities. A favorite pastime is cheering for the Lions during volleyball, basketball, and track and field seasons. There is no lack of spirit here! Outdoor activities abound year-round. Hunting is very popular and, with Fort Peck Lake about 45 minutes away, there is camping, swimming, boating, and excellent fishing. Glasgow and Wolf Point also offer a variety of activities, including shopping, swimming, museums, and restaurants.

Glasgow and Wolf Point have critical access primary care clinics and hospitals, and anything else one might need to meet their health needs. And, don't worry, there is internet and mail delivery!

Lustre is probably most famous for Schmeckfest, a German food and art festival, which draws in people  rom all over the country. This is one of the numerous activities that highlight how the community comes together to get things done – everyone is willing to help a neighbor out!

The resounding compliment that we hear is “everyone is so quick to see something that needs to be done, and do it!” Our residents truly exemplify what a small community should be, and make it the best place to live!
